East Valley Sol will be holding another event to generate funding for charitable causes with its sixth annual Old Balls Golf Tournament Saturday, April 24, at Ahwatukee Country Club.
“We hope to raise $25,000 to $50,000 this year to help families in need, Little Leagues and other youth sports organizations,” said Tim Vasquez, one of the founding members.
“Money will also go towards buying backpacks and school supplies and to adopt families for Christmas.”
The event is a reason to have fun for a good cause even if you don’t golf.
“This golf tournament is unlike any other,” said Vasquez. “It is a party on a golf course. We have gimmick holes, loud music, even a heckler on a microphone that cracks jokes while you tee off. This tournament is a blast, and it is all for a great cause.”
There’s yet more.
“We offer admission to our ‘party hole,’ where we serve beer and Someburros’ carne asada tacos so people can hang out, get some sun, listen to music and watch the golfers,”
Although the tournament has sold out in the past two years, there are still several foursomes open to anyone who wants to come out and have a good time.
Single golfers are $100 and a foursome is $375. Check-in is 11:30 with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start.
