Tapping funds from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, the Chandler and Tempe police departments will continue their emphasis on seatbelt enforcement during a national Click It or Ticket Campaign running through June 6.
Additional officers are patrolling streets in west Chandler and other portions of the city during the campaign designed to raise awareness through visibility and enforcement.
Officers will take a zero-tolerance stance on seatbelt usage, said a Chandler police spokesman.
Arizona law requires the driver to make sure that all vehicle occupants under the age of 16 are buckled up.
Sgt. Dean LaVergne, Traffic Unit supervisor overseeing the enforcement program in Chandler, said, “We are making an effort to achieve voluntary compliance of Arizona’s seatbelt law.
“Seatbelts save lives and reduce the severity of injuries in collisions.”
