Regionals next for top spellers

Winners of the Kyrene District Spelling Bee will participate in regional competition to be held Friday, Feb. 18, at Tempe Elementary School District Office, 3205 S. Rural Road.

Kyrene students will participate with district winners from Chandler, Mesa, Tempe and surrounding private, charter and home school organizations.

Kyrene District winners so far are:

1^st Place: Hannah Miao, 6^th grade, Aprende Middle School, Chandler;

2^nd Place: Prateek Pinisetti, 5^th grade, Kyrene de las Brisas  Elementary, Chandler;

3^rd Place: Bobae Johnson, 6^th grade, Kyrene Altadeña Middle School, Ahwatukee;

4^th Place: Caleb Redshaw, 5^th Grade, Kyrene del Milenio, Ahwatukee;

5^th Place: Jessica Romero, 4^th grade, Kyrene de la Colina, Ahwatukee.

The winning word, which Hannah provided correctly in the eighth round, was “physique.”

Winner of the regional bee will participate in the Arizona State Spelling Bee to qualify for the Scripps National Spelling Bee, which will take place in Washington, D.C.
