Phased retirement plan

During a Kyrene Governing Board study session and meeting held March 6, members were presented with a potential revenue-generator for the school district by implementing a phased retirement plan that would lease a past employee back through a vendor at 75 to 80 percent of their total salary, in addition to collection a portion of their retirement. Jeremy Calles, director of business services for Kyrene, said a sub-committee is developing ways this could be beneficial for both the employee and the district, and will present a recommendation to the board during the April 10 board meeting. Sandee McClelland, president of Smart Schools Plus, a company specializing in phased retirement, was also present to answer board members’ questions.
