A longtime administrator with Phoenix Elementary School District has been named superintendent of the Tempe Union High School District, succeeding Steve Adolph, who retired.
The high schools’ governing board announced the selection of Kenneth Baca as the new superintendent of schools, effective July 1.
Baca is currently assistant superintendent for business services for the Phoenix Elementary School District. He has been with that district for nine years, and previously served as director of assessment, evaluation and externally funded programs, and as principal of Kenilworth School.
Previously, Baca was regional assistant to the associate superintendent with Albuquerque Public Schools. During his work there, he was responsible for the supervision of high school principals and assistant principals.
Baca also provided oversight for the implementation of the Higher Education Initiative agreement between the Albuquerque Public Schools and the Office of Civil Rights to reduce the high school drop-out rate, increase the graduation rate and improve student academic achievement.
He also monitored and reviewed instructional programs, including the bilingual and Title I programs and implementation of the 21st Century Grant and Communities in School program for the Rio Grande High School Cluster of schools.
Baca holds three degrees from the University of New Mexico, including a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, Master of Arts in Education and Education Specialist in Educational Administration.
He anticipates completion of his doctoral program in August.
