The Aztecs’ boys volleyball team, with a new head coach, Geoffrey Horewitch, are in the midst of region play, hoping to keep their state playoff hopes alive among Division I Arizona High School teams with a 9-7 record as of April 13.

Feb. 6 is the Saturday where the local high school wrestlers compete in sectional tournaments to determine who qualifies to compete in the individual state championship tournaments and who watches from the sidelines.

It was an emotional end to an otherwise outstanding season for Marcos de Niza in its quest for the school’s first state high school football championship when the Saguaro Sabercats scored back-to-back touchdowns in the fourth quarter to ultimately defeat the Padres 38-20 on Nov. 28 at Tucson’s Arizona Stadium.
If you drive around Tempe next week around 3 p.m. you will most likely see a multitude of high school cross country runners running the sidewalks around Corona, Marcos, McClintock and Tempe high schools readying for the first main cross country the first part of September.
